Abstract

Of the 1040 small volcanic centres catalogued from this field in the middle of the TMVB, 901 are cinder or lava cones; 43 domes; 22 maars or tuff rings; 13 shield volcanoes with cones at the summit; and 61 lava flows not associated with cones. They are distributed between 200 and 430 km from the Middle America Trench without forming any preferred alignment; the highest concentration is at 250 km. Seventy-eight volcanoes were classified as morphologically younger than 40 000 yr BP and their volume is 31 km2; these figures yield an eruption volume rate of 0.8 km3/1000 yr for the entire volcanic field.-J.M.H.
