Abstract

The distribution of Talitrus saltator, Talorchestia deshayesii and Talorchestia ugolinii in Corsica has been investigated. T. saltator occurs on almost all the coasts of Corsica, T. ugolinii only on the central part of the east coast, whilst T. deshayesii only on the west. Tests for solar orientation, textural choice, survival in the water, and reproduction rate show a higher ecological valency in T. saltator than in the other two species, which could explain its widespread distribution. © 1995 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
