Abstract

The technique of Diffraction-XAFS, or DIFFRAXAFS probes the energy-dependent intensity variations of a diffraction peak at energies close to an absorption edge of one of the atoms in the phase, yielding electronic and local atomic information which is analogous to that obtained in an XAFS experiment In this paper we demonstrate the ability of powder DIFFRAXAFS to give site-specific information in the XANES region of C03O4. We also outline a method for removing the bulk absorbance effects from the diffraction data using a simultaneous measurement of transmittance, and demonstrate the method for a control peak of lithium carbonate. © 1993 The Japan Society of Applied Physics.
