Abstract

Objective: To report our experience in a single centre and results of endovascular treatment mechanical thrombec- tomy in acute ischemic cerebral stroke. Material and methods: We performed a retrospective study of 54 patients with acute ischemic cerebral stroke treated by mechanical thrombectomy between January and December 2015. Results: Mean age of presentation was 65 years old (range 52-78); 53.7 % were female. Baseline NIHSS median of presentation was 17 (interquartile range of 14-20). The location of the occlusion occurred in anterior vascular terri- tory in 92.6 % and posterior in 7.4 %. Recanalization was satisfactory in 61.1 % of TICI 2b-3, with an improvement in post-procedure NIHSS of 47.8 % and a significant post-procedure neurological improvement of 30.4 % (reduction of 4 points Of the NIHSS). Complications presented in 12.96 % of the cases. Conclusion: In our experience, endovascular stroke treatment is a safe and effective therapeutic tool. Although the indications of the technique are established, each case has to be individualized and evaluated if the patient“s clinical situation will benefit from the procedure.
