Abstract

By writing the thermopower as an integral over one electron energy states S = -( k e) sh{phonetic} (E - EF) (kT) [ σ(E) σ] dE, with the conductivity σ = sh{phonetic} σ(E) dE, one can derive the various expressions proposed for the thermopower in non-crystalline metals and semiconductors. The above expression appears to have general validity when correlation effects are neglected. EF is the Fermi energy. © 1971.
