Abstract

12In order for an algorithm to be made "Power Aware" it must contain either natural occurring fluctuations in processing or degrade modes of operations which require less processing. Power Aware hardware and software can take advantage of these fluctuations to save power. Finding them, however is a systems engineering task. This article discuses the existence of these processing fluctuations in the Complex Ambiguity Function (CAF). Three ways of identifying or introducing power saving processing fluctuations are discussed. Power Savings inherent to the sub-system (The CAF algorithm in this case). Power Savings that require the introduction of new information into the sub-system. Power Savings that are only available if the sub-system is allowed to operate in modes which are degraded with respect to the base requirements. © 2005 IEEE.
