Abstract
Due to its strategic location in relation to federal and state highways, and tax incentives, the city of Feira de Santana, in Bahia, attracted industries making it important industrial center. This pole is installed in the region of the source to the mouth of the river basin and Subaé has a diversified industrial sector (food, agribusiness, pulp, food, metallurgical and others), beyond the population density around these facilities and small and medium farms. This research quantified the total heavy metals: Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Mn, Pb and Zn in surface over the course of Subaé river water in times of drought and analyzed the correlation of concentrations found for each metal with parameters physico- chemical water. Carried out three surveys in thirteen monitoring points, defined in terms of the use and occupation of the river basin Subaé. The results indicate the impairment of water quality of the river Subaé mainly in the upper course, the urban area of Feira de Santana, mainly by high concentrations of Cu, Mn, Pb and Zn originated probably from industrial activities, above the limits established by National Environmental Council, resolution 357/05 (Class 2), which deals with surface water.
