Abstract

Morphotropic phase boundary in (1-x) Bi(Sc0.5In 0.5)3-xPbTiO3 (x = 0.45-0.50) piezoelectric ceramics was investigated in this study. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that a morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) with the coexistence of the rhombohedral tetragonal was in the vicinity of x = 0.47. In addition, the ferro-piezoelectric properties of this system were also investigated. Through electrical measurement, the composition at x = 0.47 close to MPB exhibited excellent piezoelectric properties with Tc = 394°C, d 33 = 324 pC/N, Kp = 0.51, and Pr = 23.6 μC/cm2 and Ec = 2.08 kV/mm, indicative of a future device application. © 2009 The Ceramic Society of Japan.
