Abstract

Presents a new method for separation of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) from dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) in marine samples which permits the measurement of DO15N production during DI15N uptake and regeneration experiments. Ion retardation resin was used to separate DI15N from DO15N and the isolated DO15N was subsequently analyzed by mass spectrometry. Variation in DO15N atom % enrichment in duplicate samples, determined with the ion retardation column method, was <4%. -from Authors
