Comparison between Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, and Ketorolac as an Efficient Single-Dose Preoperative Medication for Control of Pain Associated with Initial Aligning Archwire: A Double-Blind Randomized Control Trial

Abstract

The article compares the effectiveness of acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and ketorolac as preoperative medications for controlling pain associated with initial aligning archwire placement in orthodontic patients. A double-blind randomized control trial was conducted with 80 patients, showing that ketorolac, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen significantly reduced pain levels at 2 and 6 hours post-archwire placement compared to a placebo. The study suggests that preemptive analgesics can be beneficial in managing orthodontic pain, with ketorolac showing the most significant results. Further research is needed to explore the efficacy of different drugs for orthodontic pain control.
