Abstract

This paper presents the results of the first research on the age of leaving the parental home in Chile. The study used data from the Social Protection Survey (2002 and 2015) about individuals born between 1976 and 2000 living with their parents. Using the survival function to describe the event’s timing and the Aalen model to explain the effect of independent variables, it finds a significant correlation between the individuals’ educational level and the age at which they leave the parental home. Parental household characteristics are relevant only for individuals leaving at the age of 30 or older.
