Abstract

The building evacuation district in Hiroshima is examined by the method of Geographical Information System(GIS) using the aerial photos which U.S. Forces had taken just before bombing at the end of World War II, and the meaning or the reason of the evacuation was considered. As the extracting method, GIS was adopted, and how to pile one map on top of the other photo, or how to link one to another photo was established, and the method was actually applied. Near Hacchobori District and along the present Peace Boulevard etc., what is the meaning or what is the reason of evacuation, those are the subjects. © 2003, The City Planning Institute of Japan.
