Abstract

A number of cardiovascular disease states, including hypertension, ischemia, myocardial infarction, stroke, and sudden cardiac death, have been shown to occur with greatest frequency during the morning hours. Chronotherapy recognizes and accounts for this distinct circadian pattern and delivers optimal drug concentrations during heightened disease activity. Although most physicians are aware of the benefits of chronotherapy, the vast majority does not consider this when prescribing, and therefore adoption of this treatment approach is still underway.
