Abstract

A 62-year-old woman with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who had survived for 10 years am 8 months was reported. She was admitted to our hospital because of increased serum alpha-fetc protein on October, 1973. Serum HBsAg and HBeAg were both positive. On December, 1973, thi tumor was successfully resected from the right posterior superior segment of the liver, and it size was 3.5 cm in diameter. Histological examination of the surgical specimen showed HCC witl posthepatitic liver cirrhosis. Approximately 7 years later, second operation for the recurrence o HCC was performed on November, 1980. Third operation for the recurrence was performed oi September, 1981. The tumor size was 2.0 cm and 1.0 cm in diameter, respectively. On May, 1983 transarterial embolization for the recurrence was performed and she still survive. We suspectei that the development of HCC in this case resulted from multicentric occurrence of the tumor. © 1985, The Japan Society of Hepatology. All rights reserved.
