Abstract

This article analyzes in a critical way a set of discourses where the concept of cultural diversity has been positively valued. e aim is to understand the forms these discourses take, the logics supporting them as well as their relationship to some practices and, particularly, to the sociocultural means. e methodology used herein consisted in a deep open interview, complemented with ethnographic observations. A conclusion is drawn that the cultural diversity valuation, notwithstanding is commonly deemed as an expression of opening and tolerance regarding the differences, may become a restrictive and exclusive way of social classication, which is linked to consumption logics, ideas of personal drive and some individualized sense-making attempts.
