Abstract

The divertor and SOL plasma parameters predicted for the ITER double-null reference configuration are reviewed with emphasis on model uncertainties and peaking factors. Predicted divertor performance is reported for two alternate ITER magnetic configurations, a high-aspect-ratio and a single-null design, both proposed to remedy divertor heat load and erosion problems. Physical processes and fluid-plasma numerical simulations of a divertor plasma operating near the gaseous neutralization phase transition are described. © 1992 Elsevier Science Publishers B.V.
