Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the rate of technological capability accumulation in Brazilian sectors/firms. The results obtained through meta-analysis showed that the group composed by Motorola, Capital Goods and Steel presented constant accumulation rate of technological capability. The Software, Electronics (EE), Motorcycles and Bicycles (MCB) and Suppliers of EE and MCB sectors/firms showed accelerated accumulation. Finally, the group composed by forestry, pulp and paper firms showed rapidly accumulation, however, these companies already have reached world leading level. It is suggested that the speed of technological capability accumulation is determined by technological learning, in addition to macro environment, sectorial policies, support institutions and firms-specific aspects. However, it was found that the literature lacks empirical studies that demonstrate such relationship, as well as models with homogeneous metrics that allow results comparability.
