Abstract
Character through Islamic boarding school culture is basically an effort to provide knowledge about morals, foster positive feelings about morals and do morals on what has been known and felt. This research was specifically conducted to examine how the internalization of Islamic boarding school culture in the formation of the character of students. This study uses an approach involving key informants, namely one principal, one teacher, two boarding school administrators and five students at the junior high school level in the API Asri Tegalrejo Islamic boarding school, Magelang. The research data were collected by interview and observation methods. The research instruments used were interview guidelines and observation guidelines. The research data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model which consists of interrelated components, namely data collection, data reduction, data display, and data collection or conclusions. The Islamic boarding school culture at the API Asri Tegalrejo Islamic boarding school in Magelang, especially at the Syubbanul Wathon Middle School, is basically an effort to shape the character of the santri. The formation of this character occurs because the Islamic boarding school culture has been internalized in the life of the santri. Pesantren culture such as the existence of the cottage, the study of classical books, kyai and santri. This culture eventually becomes a system in the educational process in the Islamic boarding school environment.
