Abstract

The main aims in lower extremity amputations should always be to procure maximal residual limb length and, if possible, full stump end weight-bearing. Forefoot and hindfoot amputations following these principles are presented. It seems necessary to publish more information on foot amputations and on what resections are feasible in the foot, since far too many "major amputations" are still performed. © Springer-Verlag 2004.
