Abstract

This paper presents a method for determining the sex of adult Sanderling from measurements of bill and wing length taken in the field, using a discriminant function based on birds of known sex. Discriminantly sexed samples of birds caught at Teesmouth indicated a predominance of females in the population throughout the year. The seasonal pattern of weight changes was similar in the 2 sexes, though female birds were consistently heavier than males. © Taylor& Francis Group, LLC.
