Abstract
PTO/PTI systems are retrofitting solutions for ships that enhance energy efficiency and reduce costs by recovering and reusing excess energy, particularly during deceleration or low-speed operation. These systems provide power for electrical systems or propulsion, lowering fuel consumption and emissions without requiring a full system overhaul. Their integration is cost-effective for existing vessels, making them a preferred solution in the European "RETROFIT55" project. This study analyzes the optimal design of PTO/PTI systems for cargo ships, specifically a Kamsarmax bulk carrier, evaluating configurations, integration, and fuel/emission reductions based on operational data.
