The Effect of Eco Enzyme on Improving River Water Quality Based on Turbidity, Temperature, pH, and TDS Parameters

Abstract

This study examines the efficacy of eco enzymes, obtained from fermented organic waste, in enhancing the water quality of the contaminated Martapura River in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Researchers employed an experimental design with varied dosages of eco enzymes to examine alterations in turbidity, temperature, pH, and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Results indicated substantial enhancements: turbidity diminished by 49.95% (from 126 NTU to 59.5 NTU) with a 5 mL dosage, pH lowered from 7.69 to 4.63, and TDS declined from 493 mg/L to 210 mg/L, exhibiting a reduction efficiency of up to 57.4%. Although temperature variations were negligible, the overall results indicate that eco enzymes present a viable, sustainable approach for improving river water quality; however, meticulous dosage regulation is essential to reconcile advantages with possible ecological repercussions. This study offers significant insights into sustainable water treatment methods, potentially relevant for large-scale river water quality management.
