Abstract
An interview with political scientists Fernán González and Angelika Rettberg is presented. They maintain that the Colombian state has grown stronger as evidenced by its increased control over territory previously dominated by illegal armed groups. González asserts that, while social inequality is endemic to Colombia, the failure of democratic institutions is not. Rettberg notes that the international community can help strengthen the Colombian state by opening its markets to Colombian goods.
