Abstract
A bi-enzyme biosensor, alcohol oxidase (AOX) and osmium-wired horseradish peroxidase (Os-HRP) modified carbon screen printed electrode (SPE), was designed for detection of methyl mercaptan in aqueous phase. Alcohol oxidase was found to catalytically oxidize methyl mercaptan to yield H2O2, sulfide and formaldehyde. Product H2O2 could be detected electrochemically to evaluate the concentration of methyl mercaptan. The detection limit of this biosensor to methyl mercaptan in aqueous phase is 0.2μM.
