Abstract

This research aims to describe dyscalculia students’ thought process in solving comparison word problems based on Polya’s steps. Data analysis was carried out based on written test and interviews. This research was conducted on students grade VIII with dyscalculia at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Rambipuji, Jember. Instruments used in this research were dyscalcuilia diagnostic test questions, comparison word questions, interview guides, and validation sheets. This research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Dyscalculia students experienced diequilibrium in every steps of Polya, those are understand the problems, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. Dyscalculia students experienced assimilation when they tried to mention what are known and asked in the questions regardless of whether it is true or not, also they triedto determine the ways to solve the problem. Accomodation happended when dyscalculia students could mention what are known and asked in the questions. Dyscalculia students experienced equilibrum when they could understand the problem well. Dyscalculia students experienced assimiliation and accomodation to reache quilibrium phase.
