Abstract

We report a case of primary syphilis occurring in a 21-year-old man who visited our hospital on 12th January, 1988 with two painless ulcers on the corona glandularis of the penis which had developed following repeated sexual intercourse. Histological examination of the lesion revealed the typical features of syphilis. According to electronmicroscopic studies, we observed thread-like electron dense bodies, indicating the presence of spirocheta. We also present statistical data on the frequency of early syphilis cases in our department between January, 1978 and March 1988. © 1989, Western Division of Japanese Dermatological Association.
