Abstract
This study explores the link between Internet addiction (IA) and digital distraction through cognitive dissonance. Prior research confirms that IA increases digital distraction but lacks a theoretical explanation. Using data from 375 online students, findings suggest that post-behavior dissonance partially regulates distraction intensity. IA fosters cognitions that justify distraction, reducing dissonance and reinforcing the behavior. These insights advance theory and offer strategies to curb digital distraction.
