Abstract
The difference in concentration of sugar in sugary waste on research production biohydrogen to make use of continuous stirred bioreactor is equipped with Flex-matal as a packed-filter M190 (specific surface area of 190 m2/m3) and M365 (specific surface area of 365 m2/m3) as a biofilm-induced carriers investigated at the level hydrogen production (HPR) has performed. Sugary wastewater as substrate was fed to the carrier induced bioreactor with 10–30 g/L total sugar at 4 h of HRT, 37 °C of temperature and 5.5 of pH, respectively. The optimum substrate concentration of 20 g total sugar/L medium was obtained at HPR of 20.37 L H2/L.d, yield of 1.41 mol H2/mol hexose and substrate utilization of 91.71%, respectively, by using packed-filter M 190. The biohydrogen production rate was 34% higher (HPR of 27.27 ± 1.05) in M365 carrier than in M190 (HPR of 20.37 ± 0.86) when HRT was 4 h. Finally, using commercial Flex-matal as a packed-filter in the bioreactor for enhancement biohydrogen production could be an easier and cheaper operation strategy.
