Abstract

After the disasters of Great East Japan Earthquake, emergency temporary houses were built not only by standardized prefabricated method based on light gauge steel construction but also by timber based alternative method. Compared with standardized prefabricated houses, timber houses have a number of advantages such as general appearances and thermal comfort, therefore those could be still alternatives for the future. This is a case study investigation on how to reuse timber elements through dissolution and rebuilding from temporary housing to disaster recovery housing by ITAKURA timber construction method.
