An Estimate of the Production of the Eel Population in the Valli of Comacchio (Po Delta) During 1974-1976

Abstract

The Author examined 276 yellow and 552 silver eels caught in the Valli of Comacchio during 1974-76, and determined the survival and growth curve. By Allen’s method biomass per hectare, 76 kg, and production, 36 kg/ha, were estimated. The yield observed in the above period was.19 kg/ha. It is here suggested that the Valli are under-exploited and the author discusses various possibilities of a different environment management for a thorough exploitation of the natural resources. © 1979 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
