Abstract

This study discusses about historical aspects and inter relation between Pakualaman 's wayang purwa and a number of illustrations in the manuscripts. Pakualaman's wayang purwa is called Kyai Jimat, which changed and developed along the turn of Pakualaman leadership until the era of seventh leadership. A number of Pakualaman's wayang purwa more infl uenced by a wayang illustrations on the manuscripts, such as at the Serat Baratayuda, Serat Rama, Serat Lokapala, Sestradisuhul, Pawukon, Sestra Ageng Adidarma, etc. The spesifi c was discovered through the form of design of motif, colouring, and ornaments. According to iconographic aspects was discovered through tatahan (carving), sunggingan (colouring), and symbolic. The creation of wayang purwa 'Kyai Jimat' s Pakualaman not merely for the performance purposes. Most of the characters that are made, is closely related to its narrative in literature text "scriptorium" from Paku Alam I until Paku Alam VII. There are various assumption emerge that wayang kulit made within Pakualaman style is not complete. Because its characters that is created in Pakualaman, is only emphasize in pedagogy aspect that relates to highly respectfully sestradi doctrin. Intertextuality aspect is important in order to reveal each of its character existance; which will be further understood through the shape and style, symbol that is found within the wayangs puppet.
