Abstract

The article discusses the creation and development of National Information Standard Organization's Metasearch Initiative. The limitations of the Z39.50 protocol pushed the metasearch software providers to enhance the standards that will make an efficient system for the end users. Metasearch service providers offering responsive and effective services, libraries which will provide services that will differentiate offers from Google and other web services were included in the goal of Metasearch Initiative. The three groups formed that will pursue metasearch challenges and the Metasearch Initiative participants were also presented.
