Abstract

The study explored the significance of grey cast iron by delving into its applications, manufacturing methods, and its application. It first reviewed the history and the production of cast iron as well as its classification. More so, the study further elucidated grey cast iron significance in contrast to the other class of cast iron. The different applications of grey cast iron was established, while carburisation was extensively discussed as one important and cheapest method of modifying the grey cast iron. Also, the excellent resistant of grey cast iron in fatigue condition was highlighted. Thus, the study emphasized the need to consider grey cast iron as a sustainable material with wide engineering applications.
