Abstract

Crustal deformations, accompanied by eruptions of both basaltic and andesitic volcanoes, have proved surprisingly systematic. In 1958, K. Mogi presented a model of pressure source of explosive or implosive types beneath volcanoes in order to interpret the deformations observed at Sakurazima and in Hawaii. In the present paper, an alternative model with pressure sources of thrust tpye is proposed and proves to be applicable to the observations. © 1971, The Seismological Society of Japan, The Volcanological Society of Japan, The Geodetic Society of Japan.
