Abstract

Approximate solutions of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation are given for the electrostatic potentials around a charged sphere and charged cylinder. The expressions are obtained from combining various results in limits where exact solutions are available. The proposed equations match with numerical solutions to the Poisson-Boltzmann equation for arbitrary values of the double layer thickness. © 2003 Elsevier Science (USA). All rights reserved.
