ABSTRACT The Methods They Applied for Coping and the Quality of Life of University Students Living the Premenstrual Syndrome Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of premenstrual syndrome symptoms on quality of life of university students and the methods they applied for coping. Methods: This research was carried out in the Girls Dormitory of the Higher Education Institution between January-March 2015. The sample of the study consisted of 302 students who had regular menstrual cycle and volunteered to participate in the study. The data were collected by "Personal Information Form", "Premenstrual Syndrome Scale" and "Coping Methods Form with Premenstrual Syndrome", SF36 Quality of Life Scale. Results: The mean age of the students was 20.3 ± 1.6 and it was determined that 58.1% of students experienced premenstrual syndrome symptoms. A significant difference was found in the Physical Role Difficulty, Physical Pain, and General Health subscales of the Quality of Life Scale (p <0.05). It was determined that students could not cope with the symptoms of appetite change (58.7%), sleep problems (86.6%) and breast tenderness (81.3%). Conclusion: It was determined that more than half of the students had premenstrual symptoms and their quality of life was negatively affected by these symptoms. It was determined that the students were not enough to cope with premenstrual symptoms.
