Abstract

This paper presents the results of research conducted in the Graduate Program in Education-Masters of the State University of Ponta Grossa, who had as the objective the pedagogical approach to sport in Physical Education classes during the final Elementary School years. The research aimed to identify as the pedagogical approach of the sport in Physical Education classes of the final years of primary school, as well as verify the students ' conceptions of related educational segment, in relation to the sports content and Physical Education discipline. The survey has been performed in the city of Ponta Grossa- PR, in three (3) public schools. The observation and the questionnaire were the instruments used for data collection. The participants were five (5) Physical Education teachers and three hundred thirty-four (334) students from 8th and 9th grades of elementary school. The research data were categorized and analyzed through Content Analysis. The results of this research indicate that the methods used by teachers for teaching the sport do not present the hegemonic elements that characterize a teaching buoyed by performance sport and that most students do not have experiences with the sport at a level of competition.
