Abstract
This study has analyzed the performance of a generator set equipped with an Otto-cy- cle engine, operating with biogas, and compared to the same system, operating with gasoline. The tests were performed in a Branco (brand name) generator, model B4T- 5000 BIO, with load capacity change through a resistance bench. The performed analysis comprises the electric power generated by the equipment, the specific consumption, the efficiency, the λ factor and the CO and O2 emissions. The results showed that it is pos- sible to obtain electric power with biogas as fuel, but with low efficiency. The results of O2 and λ indicate that the combustion is performed with excess air to all configurations. Concerning to the CO emissions for the biogas, they were lower than 900 ppm, whereas, for the gasoline, the CO emissions were around 17,400 ppm for the compression rate of 10,2:1
