Abstract

made a presentation about project being done by Delaman (Digital Endangered Languages and Music Archiving Network) to develop standards for data citation and attribution; see the attached for details of the plans. These include a series of workshops and a panel presentation at the LSA in 2017. This project is being undertaken now partly because of the requirement from funding agencies for data management plans, plus the amount of data that is now available in digital archives. The committee is concerned that data be properly credited. It is addressing issues such as the following: How do you reference things in an archive? What are common needs in subfields? The goal of the committee is to develop standards, and get them incorporated into relevant software Various questions and ideas came up in discussion. Some archives have standards, but these are often not followed. Audio material could be stamped with the attribution. Issues around human subjects and confidentiality were raised.
