Abstract

Our objective is to answer the following question: What are the economic and ecological problems arising from the occupation of the Palestinian territory by the State of Israel? Our methodological approach involves a critical reading of the available theoretical and empirical literature and an interpretation of descriptive statistics. The main conclusion is that serious social and environmental conflicts can be resolved using another economic logic (non-violent and non-egoistic). The main finding is that there is a kind of winner’s curse, which arbitrarily takes more and more land and, due to its affluence, population growth, and harmful technology, degrades and makes the taken territory unlivable (generating a tragedy of the commons).
