Abstract

This chapter explores the case of a regulatory spatial planning instrument for FRM. The so-called “Blauzone Rheintal”, a regional plan designating large-scale areas for flood retention and flood runoff in the Austrian Rhine Valley, was issued in 2013 by the Vorarlberg state government to secure flood hazard areas and mitigate future increases in flood risk.
