Abstract

In this paper, we study how the converso elite in Lower Andalusia had a crucial role in the development of the slave trade towards the Spanish America in the age of the Emperor Charles V. Considering this analysis, it is also possible to understand better the changing relationships of the most important economic groups involved in the atlantic businesses during the first half of the sixteenth century.
