Effectiveness of Mentorship Program for Nurses Retention, Job Satisfaction, and Intention to Stay

Abstract

Introduction: Mentorship program has thought to be able to facilitate the transition of newly graduated nurses into practice. That is why this study sought to determine the effectiveness of mentorship program for nurses retention and job satisfaction. Methods: A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive-correlational research was designed. The study was conducted in a government hospital in Indonesia. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Online survey questionnaires were distributed to the 70 nurses selected via email and WhatsApp messaging software application. Results: The identified improved nurses job satisfaction through mentorship program had a total results of 7.4808±2.62335, (p=0.0012). The identified nurses retention through mentorship program in the nursing profession had a total results of 14.1346±2.77262, (p=0.005). The identified intention of nurses to stay through mentorship program had a total results of 7.00±1.98, (p=0.02). Conclusion: There is a positive outcome towards nurses retention, job satisfaction, and intention to stay following a successful mentorship program. Mentorship program has revealed a promising accomplishment in facilitating the transition of newly hired nurses into employment.
