Abstract
Background: Ageing is frequently associated with a decrease in physical activity and consequently adecline in physical fitness. Physical activity is associated with psychological health, and a large numberof studies have begun to document preventive effects for depression or neurodegenerative diseases.However, health-related quality of life is composed not only of a physical or cognitive functioningdomain, but also by the feelings of well-being.Objective: To determine the difference in physical activity levels among community dwelling and carehome dwelling elderly population.Method: 100 healthy elderly subjects aged 60 to 85 years were included in the study, out of which 50subjects were recruited from community and 50 subjects were recruited from care homes. Physicalactivity level of all the subjects was assessed using Frenchay Activity Index (FAI).Results: Krushkal Wallis ANOVA test was carried out to compare the values between the groups forFrenchay Activity Index (FAI) and it was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05).Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concludedthat the physical activity levels ofthe elderly population in community dwelling was significantly better than those who were living incare homes.
