Abstract
A new species of the recently established genus Acis, A. ionica, is described from the Ionian Islands andWSterea Ellas in Greece and a restricted area of Albania, close to the city of Vlore. The morphological differences from its relatives are discussed and phytogeographical and karyological aspects of the group outlined. The chromosome number of the new species, 2n = 16, and its karyotype are shared with its closest relative, A. valentina from the Iberian Peninsula.
