Presents the results of crossed ion-molecular beam studies of energy and angular distributions for the reaction of C/sup +/ with HCl at relative collision energies of 0.51 and 0.88 eV. The reaction appears to be direct, proceeding on a time scale short compared to the rotational period of the transient intermediate complex. The widths of the product kinetic energy distributions are at least 6 eV, indicating that the reaction enthalpy, Delta H, is approximately 5.1 eV. This result is consistent with a bond dissociation
