Abstract
Quran memorization activities are mandatory in Islamic boarding schools. Certain communication can help teachers and students in optimizing that activity. This study aimed to analyze the form of interpersonal communication between teachers and students in Quran memorization activities at Al-Islam Islamic Boarding School. It employed a descriptive-qualitative method, which explains the object of the study based on in-depth interviews and observations. It engaged 3 teachers and 6 students as informants. The results of this study indicate that communication between teachers and students in Quran memorization activities can be seen from 5 forms of interpersonal communication, namely: (1) openness, (2) empathy, (3) mutual support, (4) positive attitude, and (5) equality. Teachers and students have applied the openness principles in Quran memorization activities. The empathy of the teacher is performed by participating and feeling the problems and obstacles faced by the students. Mutual support practiced is through advice and motivation. Positive attitudes are shown by constructive attitudes and encouragement. Equality in providing guidance and direction to students is shown by the teacher by not discriminating against students, although the methods provided by the Quran memorization teacher vary following the ability of the students.
