Abstract

Gluconobacter suboxydans has a highly active respiratory chain which oxidises several sugars and sugar alcohols. The results of this study indicate that the sugar-oxidising respiratory chain consists of ubiquinone, several cytochromes C and a cytochrome O. The respiratory chain was shown to contain at least five cytochromes, including teo cytochromes C associated with alcohol or aldehyde dehydrogenase, two cytochromees C that react with carbon monoxide and a single cytochrome O some of which were characterised in this study.
