Abstract

Due to the environmental hazard caused by using fossil fuels, extensive works are being carried out to switch to green renewable energy sources such as wind. Self-excited reluctance generator (SERG) has gained acceptance for use to generate electricity from wind conversion systems. As a result, steady state, transient as well as dynamic analyses of SERG have received thorough investigations. In these investigations, core loss, either has been neglected or approximately represented. This paper proposes an accurate model of core loss in SERG. As shown in this paper, there is a perfect agreement between simulated and experimental outcomes. This demonstrates largely the nobility, feasibility and accuracy of the model presented in the paper. Effect of neglecting the core loss is also presented in this paper.
