Abstract

Existing environmental and social problems at the local level play an important role on how the effects of climate change manifest. Although international agreements and national strategies are indispensable to face these changes, the particularities of each territory require specific adaptation responses. For this reason, the issue of climate adaptation is an urgent challenge for decision makers at the municipal and regional levels. However, major difficulties remain in the development and implementation of local responses, including lack of knowledge, political will and resources. Particularly relevant is the ability to produce information that can be easily converted to adaptation policies. This article investigates the extent to which three research projects have contributed to the production of information to promote climate adaptation. The case studies are analyzed to identify how, and to what extent, the interactions between different types of knowledge contributed to the adaptation process at the local level.
